Blind date

I went on a blind date this weekend. I’ve developed a relationship with someone I met online. They live a few states away. We’ve decided to finally meet midway between our states. I am nervously counting down the hours until we see one another face to face.

We are meeting in a motel parking lot and not telling anyone but our closest confidants.

And then she read

Today I am beyond honored to be featured on Breaking the Parenting Mold a blog created by my good friends Kristi from Finding Ninee and Jen from Homeschooling My Way.  They have chosen my post the progression in Bridget’s language and how being a little inventive led to ….

Oh wait, you have to visit here to read more!

How to help your child communicate using sight words.

Oh and did I mention there is a video?

Who knew I had a catchphrase?

When I first met David he had this term, “I turned around…” He used it all the time to it became a running joke between us.  He would say, I turned around…I would reply, “what direction were you facing?”

A few years ago Abby learned the term, “literally”. Unfortunately she did not learn how to appropriately use the word in a sentence. It just to drive me crazy, not literally. I was just happy that the word “like” seems to have been eradicated from her vocabulary.  Continue reading

If we were having a glass of wine

If we were having a glass of wine, I would tell you that we gave up on soccer. Completely. I didn’t go to the last three sessions. I’m not upset (much) that we didn’t see it through. Bridget’s safety was more important. It doesn’t mean we are giving up sports. We are just going to be smarter about our choices. I just could make Bridget feel like this anymore.

If we were having a glass of wine, I would say I am so freaking happy flip flop weather is here. I despise being cold. If anyone complains about the heat, I might sucker punch them in the nose. Continue reading

Some days are easier.

Bridget hates having her hair brushed. To the extreme where we can only comb her hair if she is in the shower and distracted. I have tried every way possible to do Bridget’s hair without using duct tape.

Some days the universe throws you an easy morning.

After her shower, Bridget asked for a braid.

And then she let me do it.

Without tears, without fighting but with a smile.

It’s going to be a good day.

Yes, she is still in the nightgown.

It’s still going to be a good day.

Just a girl enjoying a story

Bridget recently won a trip to Great Wolf Lodge through a local disability group.  In a million years we never would have planned the trip.  One, the expense just would not be in our budget. Two, we never know if this type of thing would be something Bridget would enjoy or be tortured by. This would be the first theme-park type experience that Bridget would experience being mobile and not just hanging out in her chair.

Abby was beyond excited. Continue reading

You want to explain it to her?

We were shopping over the weekend. I went looking for one thing, ended up with a whole bunch of things I hadn’t planned on buying. I know it happens to the best of us. You go in for a gallon of milk, you come out with three types of cookies, ten bags of chips and forget the milk.

On Saturday we went into the store to get a pair of shorts.  Continue reading
