When I look at this photo, I remember Abby telling her kindergarten class that her new sister was in the hospital (again) but she was going to be home soon.
When I look at this photo, I remember Abby telling her first grade class that there was nothing wrong with her sister. That Bridget just threw up a lot so if you want to be near her make sure you are not wearing nice clothing. White would be a good choice because then you can use bleach.
When I look at this photo, I remember Abby telling the babysitter (who is a nurse) that Bridget was allergic to peanut butter because she thought peanut butter was dairy. (But, “butter” is in the name!)
When I look at this photo, I remember Abby in fourth grade telling her class that Bridget was just like them. Her sister just had a funny pattern in her brain that made her learn things differently.
When I look at this photo, I remember Abby telling me that she never doubted her sister would one day walk.
When I look at this photo, I hear Abby telling Bridget that one day she will ride the big bus to school with her and would no longer be left at the bus stop.
When I look at this photo, I remember Abby transition from reading to Bridget to patiently listening to Bridget read to her for the first time.
When I look at this photo, I remember all those years I worried and Abby just accepted that one day Bridget would do more than I could imagine. From teaching her to rock climb to jump off the porch.
When I look at all these photos I see two sisters. Two sisters so alike and different. Two sisters so in love with one another. Two sisters who make my heart grow two sizes too big.
