Milestones are awesome. Unexpected milestones, well. They are my favorite. This weekend we (gulp) gave away Bridget’s walker. She hasn’t used it in 3 years. But donating the walker was a big step for me. It meant I finally stopped worrying that she would have some catastrophe and not be able to walk.

For the love of books
I love to read. As in read anything as long as they are words. I sometimes embarrass Abby with my reading. Last week I was reading the new Rick Riordan book, Blood of Olympus. The fact that Abby’s classmates were also reading it made her question my level of maturity. The fact that I was having an involved discussion about the book with her friends upped my cool factor. At least I think it did.
She is probably still questioning my maturity level.

Picture time
I am always nervous when it comes to school picture day. For years we received pictures of Bridget looking unfocused. She would look, for lack of a better word, off. Then she started her preschool/integrated program. Going to picture day with her therapist has been a God-send.
This year, with apologies to the grandmothers who will be horrified that I did not dress Bridget in appropriate school photo day dresses and bows, captures her spirit.
And her obsession with Elsa.
Revelations
I know, just know, that my child would rather I not reveal this but….I do not want her to be me.

Losing Innocence
I knew 5th grade would be tough. I expected her to grow-up a little more. I expected her to gain some independence, start moving away from Barbies and Fairies to explore more of real-life heroes.
I expected this to change due to society. From her friends and classmates who seem to be growing up so much quicker than she seems to be. I did not expect her to lose the shine of innocence doing a Social Studies Project. Continue reading
